Siri is just turning 7 years old. She’s learned a lot during this time and comes with an impressive resume. Siri is no longer alone either – Alexa, Cortana, the Google Assistant and Bixby are also entering into the job market.
According to recent surveys, companies are looking more and more to digital assistants. These predict that more than 40% of large companies will be using Siri, Alexa & Co. as early as next year. But for what purposes?
In the past 7 years, the range of tasks covered by digital assistants has actually not developed that much. Siri and her siblings are hired to transcribe dictations, remind you of your meetings, find files faster and provide good music when the opportunity arises. Is that really all there is?
Another Step on the Career Ladder for Siri and Alexa?
The fact that they make collaboration between employees more efficient or that they can be used to interact with customers via online chats, for example, or used in public institutions such as museums, is a welcome benefit to many organizations. But there are currently hardly any other scenarios for digital assistants.
It seems that companies are not yet ready to promote Siri and Alexa. The professional careers of digital assistants however show parallels to the use of mobile devices in companies. Initially viewed critically, they have become an indispensable part of everyday business life.
If digital assistants continue to follow this development, they will be in use in virtually every company in the future. This should lead to new scenarios and areas where Siri and Alexa can take on more tasks
