New: Prevent 3rd party app stores on iOS devices

The latest update to our Mobile Device Management (MDM) system provides a significant security enhancement for iOS devices. Administrators now have the ability to prohibit the installation of apps from third-party marketplaces.

The iOS policy configurations in the Cortado administration portal now include a checkbox to disable the installation of apps via alternative app marketplaces in the EU.

With the introduction of the EU’s Digital Market Act (DMA) came new requirements for mobile operating systems, including iOS, which must now allow third-party app stores. This is a significant change from Apple’s previous policy of only allowing its own app store on iPhones and iPads.

While this increases diversity and choice for users, it also introduces potential security risks for organisations. To address these challenges, our MDM platform now offers the ability to specifically prohibit the installation of apps from these third-party marketplaces.

By enabling this setting on managed iOS devices, administrators can ensure that only verified and secure apps from the official App Store are installed. This protects corporate data from potential security risks posed by unauthorised or malicious software.

This control is a critical step in maintaining the integrity and security of corporate assets on mobile platforms.
